Supplies for Cloth Baby Wipes

Looking for baby supplies both gentle on your wallet and on the environment? Consider making your own reusable cloth baby wipes out of extra receiving blankets, flannel shirts, or baby wash cloths. Save nearly $150 a year, and protect the environment from excess waste with these eco-friendly wipes.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 20 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Collect your supplies for the wipes:
    • Receiving blankets or soft flannel shirts
    • Scissors
    • Sewing machine
Alternatively, you could skip steps 2 and 3 and instead use thin, baby wash cloths.
  2. Cut the material into 8 X 8 inch squares.
  3. Line up two pieces of flannel back to back and use either a serger or a tight zig-zag stitch to sew around the edges.
  4. Collect your supplies for the wipes solution.

    • 2 cups of water
    • Baby body wash or baby shampoo
    • Baby oil
    • A tablespoon
    • A spray or squirt bottle
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of baby wash and 2 tablespoons baby oil into the water. Stir gently to prevent excess bubbling.
  6. Pour mixture into spray bottle.
  7. When a wet wipe is needed, spray down the flannel wipe with the solution.
  8. Store dirty wipes in a small trash can or container. Launder with your towels or underwear.
