Disposable swim diapers can certainly be a convenient choice. Rather than having several sizes, disposable swim diapers are designed similar to pull-ups with stretchy sides. That means that the swim diaper will fit your baby through a broader weight range. The sides can be easily torn open for changing messy pants, or pull off for "cleaner" changes. And when you're done swimming, simply chuck in the nearest waste can.
The Problem with Swim Diapers That Are Disposable
While you might feel confident that your disposable swimwear is the healthiest choice for both your baby and other pool-goers, studies have called into question the hygenic value of disposable swim diapers. It is apparent that disposable diapers do not contain messes and bacteria, like cryptosporidium, very well.
That doesn't surprise me at all given my personal experience using them. I remember the first time I sunned in my beach chair with my baby on my lap after a nice swim - and being doused in a warm shower when the swim diaper held urine about as well as a seive would. Or, I could recount the number of times that a yucky poo was only containable for a few minutes before the rather stretchy leg gusset barrier was breached. They just didn't work well for my babies.
