I received a set of tommee tippee bibs as a gift from a dear friend when my daughter was born. This was my third baby, but the first time I had seen anything like these bibs. The tommee tippee Closer to Nature Milk Feeding Bibs have a very different design that left me intrigued as to how well these bibs would perform. Was it really that great of a bib or just a run-of-the-mill baby item?
Design Features of Tommee Tippee Milk Feeding Bibs
When I first freed the tommee tippee bibs from the cute wrapping paper, what I noticed immediately was the softness of the material. It is made from two layers of a cotton/polyester terry cloth fabric, (a logical choice considering the how terry cloth absorbs liquids so well).
The most unique feature of the bib is the "dribble catcher." Picture a spongy ring along the neck hole of the bib. Between the two layers of terry cloth is absorbent extra padding designed to catch any drools or spills. I've found this dribble catcher prevents milk from running down under my baby's neck. I used to joke that babies could "make cheese" under their little chin-choppers, but the tommee tippee dribble catcher certainly prevents that. And not only does it prevent "cheese-making", but it seems to also prevent redness and rashes very well.
Another very practical feature is the adjustable neck. I was quite frustrated with snapping bibs or bibs that pull over the head because I could never get just the right fit. I would constantly be swabbing away all the dribbles that found their way to hidden nooks and crannies. However, tommee tippee milk feeding bib has a soft velcro closure which allows "wiggle room" so that I could get the perfect fit and further prevent milk from running under my baby's chin and onto her clothing.
Simple Washing Instructions
So after giving the bibs a thorough test run, my next question was to find out how well they laundered. I can't tell you how many stained bibs I already have that just don't seem to clean up well. My baby helped put the tommee tips to test after several feedings and lots of spit up.
After intense use, the bibs had become slightly discolored and a little stiff from milk dribbles. I tossed my bibs in with like colors and washed on warm. They came out perfectly clean and wonderfully soft. One caution to follow, the manufacturer warns against using bleach as it can cause the dribble catcher to break down in the wash.
Overall Review of Closer to Nature Milk Feeding Bib
I never thought I would describe a bib to be "awesome", but I have to admit the tommee tippee Closer to Nature Milk Feeding Bib is all that it is cracked up to be.
- It works great for breast or bottle feeding.
- The clever "dribble catcher" is nifty and well-designed.
- It launders easily.
The best insight that I can give is that although I received those first 2 bibs as a gift, I've since gone out and bought myself more, and I won't hesitate to include them in a baby gifts I give out in the future as well.
