Four Syllable Names for Girls

Longer Names for Babies (4 and 5 Syllable)

By

I think there is something slightly romantic and feminine about many longer girl names. Four syllable names for girls most often end in -a or -ia or some other vowel sound (Araceli, Felicity, and Guadalupe). Those vowel endings have a way of softening the name (as well as lengthening it). Of the 53 names on popular name lists, only two end in a consonant sound: Elizabeth and Evangeline. (Scroll down for complete listing.)

List of Four and Five Syllable Girl Names

I went through the most recent Social Security Popular Baby Name List (See Top 1000 Baby Names) and compiled a list of all the four and five syllable names I could find. What I found was that these longer names are not nearly as popular two and three syllable names, but there certainly are a few four syllable names.

Now let me skip ahead for one moment, there is one lone five syllable girls' name that makes the list. The longest name (in terms of syllable length) for girls is Alexandria. Nothing longer than that one. I think what happens when you get to names of that length, the name can become a bit of a mouthful. Because of that, five syllable names are not as appealing to parents.

Even four syllable girl names aren't excessively popular, though certainly there are some well-known names on the list. Within the Top 50 Baby Names, the only girl names that are four syllables include Isabella, Olivia, Elizabeth, Victoria, Amelia, and Gabriella.

Alphabetical Listing of Four Syllable Girl Names

Now before I give you the list, I do want to point out that depending on what part of the country, some of these names might only be pronounced as three syllables. For example: Amelia might be pronounced ah-MEEL-ee-a or ah-MEEL-ya. So just keep that in the back of your mind as your browse the listing.

Names of similar pronunciation are grouped together. Without further ado...
