Around Mother's Day each year, the Social Security Administration (SSA) releases its list of top 1000 baby names. Many parents use these lists when naming their baby, especially those concerned about choosing popular names. However, the SSA list does not account for the fact that a single name can have multiple spellings.
To help get a more accurate picture of popular baby names, I have done my best to compile the SSA list of top 1000 baby girls names into a ranked list based on pronunciation. Diclaimer here: because parents do not have to explain their intended pronunciation on the birth certificate, I've had to make several judgement calls on same name/different spelling. Nowadays, it seems many parents have thrown standard phonics out the window when naming their baby. In light of that, there may be some cases where names are supposed to be pronounced slightly differently. I've done my best!
Read on to see how this compiled list of popular baby girl names compares to the SSA list.
